Comeback Victory
The day the Cleveland Indians told FSN Ohio executives that the regional sports network would no longer be carrying the team’s games was one of the worst of Steve Liverani’s professional life. For months, there had been rumors that the American League baseball team was interested in starting its own sports channel after its contract with the network expired. But it wasn’t until that meeting at Jacobs Field in November 2005 that the FSN Ohio general manager was hit with the reality of l... Regional Leader
At RPM, we try to live by the value of 168, the favorite number of my grandfather and RPM founder Frank Sullivan. It represents the total number of hours in a week and reminds us the gift of time is priceless and needs to be spent wisely and productively. Fred Nance might not know it, but he is an example of someone who understands the value of 168 by making the most of his considerable gifts to, as he once put it, “make Cleveland a better place than I found it.” With Fred’s educationa... The Power 100
Power. Money alone won’t do it. Neither will good deeds or political position. It’s an elusive combination of factors that give someone power and the 100 people on this list certainly qualify. The editors of Inside Business scanned the region, talking to officials and leaders throughout Northeast Ohio and inside the business community to hone our list. So it would be good to get to know this outstanding group of power players if you’re wondering what the future of this region holds.&nb... |

Spread the Word
Thanks for helping us spread the word about the value of Lake Erie and the Great Lakes. Great article! (ìHow to bring 2 million people to Northeast Ohio,î December issue.) I grew up in Lake County and I believe it is very common for people in Northeast Ohio to take the lake for granted. Articles like yours will certainly help the situation. Keep up the good work. The housing market may hit rock bottom this year, but not to worry, there is no recession looming in 2007, predicts Sam Thomas, senior lecturer at Case Western Reserve University’s Weatherhead School of Management. Thomas made his predictions for the sixth year at the school’s 33rd annual David A. Bowers Economic Forecast luncheon, where hundreds gathered to hear him foretell of a mid-cycle slow down in the economy in 2007, but not a recession like in 2001. “We’ve had a lot of st... Buying out the Boss
Marc and Lois Wyse no longer own the advertising firm they founded in 1951 — their employees do. A group of Wyse Advertising employees led by Michael Marino, the firm’s CEO and president, closed the deal to acquire Ohio’s largest independent advertising agency in January. Marino and an ownership team including Dave Jankowski, director of account management, Sharyn Hinman, creative director, and Margaret Weitzel, director of administration, will serve as senior... Flipping Out
Adorned in aprons and chef hats, amateur pancake flippers will gather this month to compete for an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast and, of course, this year’s “Golden Griddle” trophy. On Feb. 20, also known as National Pancake Day, relay teams of four representing area companies must navigate their way through the Third Annual Northeast Ohio Pancake Relays — a brief and winding course on the floor of downtown Cleveland’s Galleria. The whimsical event, sponsored by IHOP, w... From Advertising to Author
What started out as a serious look at what happens to top-level executives facing a downturn in the job market ended up a lighthearted story about a man whose life plays out like a country western song — losing his wife, kids, dog, house, friends — forcing him to start a new career as a sales clerk in a hardware store set in Shaker Heights. Such is the latest book by former advertising and marketing executive Mike Cargile, who, after a string of published children’s books, decided to t... Global Perspective
Northeast Ohio’s business school leadership is reflecting the growing international diversity of its students and our economy. Most recently, Mohan Reddy, interim dean at Case Western Reserve University’s Weatherhead School of Management, was nam... Groundbreaking News

Race to Victory
Bruce Hanusosky raced in the fast lane of entrepreneurial success. For years, his Painesville company, High Tech Performance Inc., was growing at a double-digit clip. It quickly gained a strong reputation for making top-quality, customized semitrailers that NASCAR teams used to haul their multimillion-dollar high-performance race cars and equipment. And then, in the late 1990s, a corporate giant tried to force his company to crash and burn into oblivion. The competition was so brutal that Hanusosky, at ... |
