Players: Upper Executive Appointments in Northeast Ohio
Ganeden Biotech has hired Erin Miller as marketing manager. Miller, a graduate of Pennsylvania State University, spent the last eight years with Crain’s Cleveland Business.
Notre Dame College has hired Janet G. Ashe as vice president for finance and administration. Ashe, a graduate of Michigan State University with an MBA from the University of Detroit, previously worked at the Cleveland Museum of Art.
Deborah F. Spake has been named dean of Kent State University’s College of Business Administration. Spake, a graduate of the University of South Alabama, previously served as associate dean and professor of marketing at the Mitchell College of Business at the University of South Alabama.
Direct Recruiters Inc. has named Matthew Cohen as energy practice leader for the sectors of oil and gas, alternative and renewable energy including solar, wind and biofuels, and water and wastewater management. Cohen attended Bowling Green State University and served as a combat paratrooper in the military.
Thornhill Financial Inc. has hired Gordon C. Short as the firm’s senior manager. Short, a graduate of John Carroll University who received his law degree from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University, most recently served as the chief investment officer for the state of Ohio.
McDonald Partners announced appointments as a result of its new affiliation with Goodman Financial Group. John V. Goodman will serve as senior managing partner on the board of directors and as senior partner and managing director of investments. Michael Powers will serve as managing director of investments. Aaron Kamat will serve as vice president of investments. Scott Dubin will serve as financial adviser and Helene Shafiyan will serve as senior registered client associate.
Eliza Jennings Senior Care Network has hired Kathleen Overy as clinical RN liaison. Overy, a graduate of the University of Toledo, served as clinical RN liaison with Life Care Centers of America and clinical RN instructor at Lorain County Community College.
Parma Community General Hospital has hired David A. Cook as senior vice president and chief financial officer, Michael Mainwaring as vice president of physician alignment and business development, and Sharon K. Thomas as chief nursing officer. Cook is a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University. Mainwaring earned his MBA from the University of Pittsburgh. Thomas is a graduate of Kent State University with an MBA from Cleveland State University.
Dr. Susan M. Hong has been appointed Summa Health System’s medical director of radiation oncology. Dr. Charles Kunos has been hired as medical director of radiation oncology at Summa Akron City Hospital and director of brachytherapy/radiosurgery at Summa Akron City Hospital.
Kaiser Permanente Ohio has promoted Dr. Nabil Chehade to president and executive medical director of the Ohio Permanente Medical Group. Chehade, who received his medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo, is a recent graduate of the Harvard Business School.
National Interstate Corp. has promoted Tony Mercurio to executive vice president and chief operating officer. Mercurio, a graduate of the University of Mount Union who earned his MBA from Cleveland State University, joined National Interstate in 1997.
Oswald Cos. has hired Barbara Belovich, former executive director of the Ohio Health Action Council, in its employee benefits division.
Benesch, Friedlander, Coplan & Aronoff has hired David C. Weiner as an attorney in the firm’s litigation practice group. Weiner, a graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a law degree from Georgetown University, served as managing partner and litigation group chair of Hahn, Loeser & Parks.
Buckley King added Albert G. Hehr III as a partner in its corporate and transactions group. Hehr received a law degree from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University.
CardPak has hired John Souza as vice president of strategic development. Souza is a former owner and founder of a carded packaging/thermoforming company.
Tesla NanoCoatings has hired Charles Simpson as chief technical director, Michael Wright as director of business development and government sales, and Stephen Stohla as military sales specialist. Simpson had been technical manager, product development specialist and chemist for Sherwin-Williams Co.
Flack Steel has added Troy Langenderfer to its Midwest sales force. Langenderfer was most recently general sales manager at A.M. Castle Metals.
Dix & Eaton has promoted Lisa Rose to head the firm’s investor relations practice. Rose, who was a counselor in the investor relations practice, is also a senior managing director of the firm and a member of its leadership committee and board of directors.

Merchandise Mart Properties Inc. has hired Mike Mangan as chief engineer and Ron Willner as director of event services for the Cleveland Medical Mart & Convention Center.
Event Source has hired Laura O’Brien as customer experience coordinator, Lauren Balata as customer service representative and Patrick Kennedy as information technology manager.
The Rogers Co. has hired Sam DiBernardo as a detailer and project manager and Dana Kostovny as an account manager.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum has promoted Gregory S. Harris, who had served as vice president of development since 2008, to president and CEO. Harris, a graduate of Temple University, has a master’s degree from the Cooperstown Graduate Program for History and Museum Studies.
Christopher Kuhar has been promoted to director of the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. Kuhar, a graduate of the University of Akron with a doctorate from the Georgia Institute of Technology, was the zoo’s curator of animals.
The Reserves Network has promoted Neil Stallard to CEO. Stallard served as the company’s executive vice president and COO and is the son of founder and former CEO Don Stallard, who will remain as chairman.
Expedient has hired Michael DeAloia as its new regional vice president. DeAloia, who previously worked for the city of Cleveland as senior executive for technology development, has also worked with Emerging Chefs, LNE Group and BlueBridge Networks.
