Work with the Blowhards in Your Group
If your team is feeling the heat this year, get them in front of a furnace.
The Glass Bubble Project offers a unique team-building event that comes with a made-by-you vase, bowl, ornament or decorative flower.
“They have to help each other,” explains Michael Kaplan, a glass artist and co-owner of The Glass Bubble Project.
Glass must be turned constantly while blowing it or heating it in the oven. While one person turns, another uses tools to cut the glass or open up the mouth of the bowl or vase.
The second person may also stretch small pieces of glass around a larger piece to create spirals of color or attach a handle to a cup. In some cases, a third person is needed to hold up paddles to guard the two from the 2,000-degree heat.
“It’s a completely new environment and something they know nothing about,” Kaplan says. “You can get burned, so they have to get help from each other, trust each other.”
